Yesterday was a truly typical day and it was great. Nothing crazy or outrageous happened. I was living life as any other UCC student which was very cool. I woke up kind of early (9 AM has become "early" to me) and I had my Spanish class at 10. I think that class is going to go pretty smoothly and easy. Right now it's a lot of review which is good for me since I haven't spoken a word of Spanish for about three years. I was trading a bunch of e-mails with the Head of the Spanish Department at Holy Cross a few weeks ago and they officially accepted this class as counting for my language department which is a huge relief since my language requirement is one of the last core requirements I have to fulfill. Except for my natural science but I'm not dealing with that until next year.
Later in the day Kristin and I went to our first society meeting. Right before the start of term there was a big fair to sign up for different societies and clubs. In Ireland, societies are basically what American clubs are, and Irish clubs are sports teams. I signed up for the Hot Beverage Society (free tea and cookies every Thursday night - score), the Drama Society, and the Slainte Society. Slainte is the meeting we went to yesterday. It's UCC's society dedicated to healthy living. They cover anything and everything about health - physical, mental, spiritual. I'm in a similar type of group at Holy Cross called NEED (Nutrition, Exercise, Eating Disorder Peer Educators) so this was definitely a group I wanted to be a part of and I thought I had a lot of ideas I could contribute. The group seems really nice. This is only their second year in existence so they are still getting their feet off the ground. They have a couple of positions available for their committee and one of them is the Ordinary Committee Member. I think this person basically helps with anything that needs it. I'm pretty sure I'm going to try to get this position. I think there's some type of meeting I have to go to on Monday night so I'll keep you posted.
I was seriously running out of food last night so a few friends and I went out for fish and chips at a place just a few streets over from Castlewhite. It was called Jackie Lennox and it was so good! Nothing like the fish and chips we had in Kinsale a few weeks ago, but I still really liked it. After dinner we went over to the New Bar in the Student Center. I'm beginning to learn here that no matter what night of the week it is, there is always some type of fun thing going on and you just need to figure it out which you want to go to and then when you actually need to do school work. My friend Joanna's roommate was running a Trivia Competition so we went and played. Of course, we didn't know a lot of the answers (in the sports category, there was not one about baseball - very tragic) but it was still fun.
So that was my Wednesday! Nothing out of the ordinary, just a fun day. Many more to come!
Slan!
