Not gonna lie, life is pretty good right now! I'm spending the day in my kitchen, drinking tea and watching "The Devil Wears Prada" while the aroma of banana bread baking in the oven fills the room. And this would all make for a slightly above average day if I wasn't already on Cloud 9. Why, you ask?
Back in early December, I had applied for an advertising internship at Cosmopolitan Magazine. Sounds pretty cool right?! Because I am abroad and unable to have an on-site interview within their office, I had a phone interview with the Advertising Director at Cosmo over Christmas break. I was SO nervous. I already hate interviews, but considering Cosmo is such a prestigious company and I don't really have any advertising experience, I was jumping out of my skin that morning trying to prepare. About a month had gone by and I still hadn't heard a word from them about their decision. UNTIL . . . Thursday afternoon I received an e-mail on my BlackBerry from Cosmo; they were offering me the position! Are you kidding?! I couldn't believe it. Honestly, part of me still feels like it's a dream. I am so ecstatic, excited, pumped, and beyond grateful for this amazing opportunity to learn about the advertising industry at such a well known and successful company. I am also so happy because the internship is at their office in New York City, so I will get to live at home and finally spend some much-needed time with the fam. As much as I am enjoying being abroad, I can't wait to be home for a somewhat permanent amount of time. Getting this incredible news definitely made this week very memorable.
Last night Tracie had friends visiting from Dublin and we all went out to The Bailey, a bar in the city, together. It has been a while since I've gone out in Cork City. Partly because I've been pretty tired, and also because students here go out during the week -- which I don't like to do as much. I forgot how much fun it was! We always meet interesting people when we are out in the city. One of the best parts of going out at night is having your girlfriends there, but you still have this whole random crowd to socialize with. Talk about random - I met this guy named Mike who told me that I should go to Morocco but to never, ever take the "local bus," whatever that means.
Banana bread is almost ready! We are going out to dinner tonight with Tracie's friends to The Brick Oven which I have been hearing great things about for months. And I'm pretty good about not going out to eat and basically always cooking for myself so a treat every now and then isn't so bad. AND they have cheesecake! Case closed, I'm so there.
Have a good rest of the weekend! For those of you in the Northeast, I hope you are still able to enjoy life while under feet and feet of snow.
Slan!
Awesome life is awesome.
ReplyDeleteThat's all amazing, Ali. But, no matter how good that banana bread is, I still believe your blondies are better. Not until you disprove that will my opinion be swayed.
Alison,
ReplyDeleteYou ROCK!! Cosmopolitan is so lucky to have you. Your infectious energy and passion get me pumped. CONGRATULATIONS!!
Enjoy your weekend. I did shovel a LOT of snow today including up on our roof. What fun.
